Why Your Life Isn’t Changing

This is the real reason you keep getting the same unwanted experiences playing on repeat…and what you can do about it.

The trouble is…

Your discomfort is comfortable to you.

That’s why your life isn’t changing.

It’s so familiar you don’t even really register the discomfort.

In fact, it’s so comfortable, you’ve put your slippers on, sat down with your cup of tea, and said ‘this is just how it is for me’. Or ‘Oh well, I’m only human.’

Glossing over the discomfort with comfort-creating words that pacify the angst and disguise the dis-ease.

Until you meet someone, or something, that ruffles those feathers.

Someone or something that pushes you out of the comfort to face what you’ve been ignoring, or bypassing, or accepting as ‘just how it is for me’.

Someone who reminds you of the shrinking limitation you felt around your controlling parent.

Someone who reminds you of that ‘little miss perfect’ girl at school who you hated.

Something that reminds you of your hope-filled dreams, of opportunities with work…relationships…money…that you’re not getting…and you want.

Something that triggers the shame and ‘I’m a disappointment’ you remember as a kid.

All of these are bringing your discomfort up into the light.

They are a gift. The discomfort is a gift. Because it’s all inviting you in.

The discomfort is telling you there’s a false barrier in you.

It’s preventing the full feeling of the love of who you are, as you are.

And it will stay until you do something about it.

So are you ready to embrace it?

Because until you do, your life won’t change.

You will stay in comfortable discomfort. Ever-vigilant for the next time it rears its head.

But if you’d rather live in peace…there are so many ways to embrace the barriers to love in you.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it and embrace them.” Rumi

With all the love, Helen
